Roger Radford Smith continues a family tradition of giving financial and insurance advice going back three generations to 1913 when Robert Radford Smith, his grandfather, started his first insurance practice as an agent for the Yorkshire Insurance Company in Sheffield and the Lloyd’s of London Insurance syndicates. He was followed in the business by Roger’s father.
Roger Smith provides unbiased financial advice to UK clients and some clients resident outside the UK. As a result of his TV and Radio broadcasts Roger’s client base stretches from Cornwall to Orkney and Spain to New Zealand.
Called to the Bar in 1975 at Middle Temple, Roger Smith shares an in–depth knowledge of the pressures and financial needs of his colleagues and numbers many members of the Bar, both in private practice or in commerce, and the Judiciary, as his clients.
Having lived in North Kensington and Cornwall and worked in Chiswick for many years, Roger Smith also looks after large numbers of clients in the Chiswick, Hammersmith, Ealing, Kensington, Chelsea, Richmond and Barnes areas of London. Having had branches in Sheffield and Truro he has many clients also in those areas.

Roger Smith was educated in Sheffield and gained a degree in law with honours from London University. After being called to the Bar Roger became a Licensed Dealer in Securities in 1981,
a BBC radio financial adviser in 1981 (to the present day) and a Registered Insurance Broker in 1984. He joined the National Association of Securities Dealers and Investment Managers (NASDIM) and became a Professional Indemnity Committee member 1984‑6 ( NASDIM became the first UK Financial Adviser Services Regulator, the Financial Intermediaries, Managers and Brokers Association known as FIMBRA ).
He became a breakfast TV money adviser on TV‑am, the world’s first breakfast TV station, in 1985–6 and a FIMBRA and Investors Compensation Scheme Council founding Director in 1986‑88.

He opened Radford Smith Investment Centres in Chiswick in 1985, Truro in 1990 and Sheffield in 1998.
He started a financial phone programme at BBC Essex which continues to this day. BBC Essex has won, amongst others, the Sony Award for local radio broadcasting.
Roger Smith was a founding trustee of the Who Cares? Trust, a registered charity for young people in care and served as its chairman from 1995–2000. He was from 1985‑2000 a volunteer legal and financial adviser at the Terrence Higgins Trust, a registered charity for those with HIV/AIDS. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS) in 1997, following his voluntary legal work in the House of Lords for the Terrence Higgins Trust. He was Chairman of the Hounslow Police and Community Committee from 1997–2000 and Chairman on the Chiswick Traders Association(CTA) from 1995–2000.
While Chairman of the CTA he was, as a Hogarth enthusiast, instrumental in commissioning Britain’s first statue of the father of English painting, William Hogarth (1697‑1764). Subsequently others on the committee have gone on to form the William Hogarth Trust, a registered educational charity. The statue stands in the centre of Chiswick, West London, and was opened by David Hockney, Sir Peter Blake and Ian Hislop.
In 2006 Roger Smith was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce, in recognition of 25 years of financial broadcasting and journalism in the UK.
He has been a contributor to the Barristers’ magazine, Counsel, since 1996.
In July 2010 Roger Smith passed the latest examination for financial advisers, the Dip FA , ahead of the new FSA regulations to be introduced on 1 January 2013 ,making it the principal examination in the UK for all independent financial advisers.
